When she was 16 years old, Katniss volunteered to take her sister[53], Primrose Everdeen's place in the 74th Hunger Games after Prim's name was called during the reaping. Originally, she had no intention of going into the games, hoping she wouldn't be picked before the female tribute was chosen.[1] It had not even crossed her mind, but, when her sister was picked, she volunteered to save her, in hopes that she could actually win. In the book and film, Prim was actually worried about being picked, but Katniss thought that was impossible since she hadn't taken any tesserae and her name was only entered once[53]. The impossible happened whether Prim had taken any or not.[1][54] The male tribute was from the town bakery, Peeta Mellark, who had once risked a beating to save Katniss and her family from starvation by gifting them some burnt bread.[53]
The next morning, she is awoken by a forest fire[8] created by the Gamemakers, including fireballs that are flung at her. She survives the attack but suffers minor burns and cuts on her hands and a severe burn on her calf. She goes to sleep and is woken by the sound of footsteps. Katniss is briefly chased by the Career pack, consisting of Glimmer, Marvel, Cato, Clove, the female from District 4 (book), and Peeta, and escapes up a tree. Cato tries to climb up after Katniss, but crashes to the ground because he is too heavy for the branches to hold. Glimmer also attempts to kill Katniss by shooting her with an arrow (film), but she misses. The Careers realize that they are all too heavy to climb the tree, so they decide to wait for her to come down.[9]

In the epilogue, Katniss speaks as an adult, more than fifteen years later. She and Peeta have two children together; a daughter and a son. By this point, the Hunger Games are over, the arenas have been destroyed, and memorials have been built for the tributes and others; who died in the wars. She and Peeta have settled in the Meadow, where their children can play in peace and harmony. She dreads the day her children's innocent world is shattered by learning the details of their parents' involvement in both the Games and the war, though Peeta assures her that they will be okay, that they have each other and the book. Katniss is still affected by post-traumatic stress disorder in the years following the Games and the war. When she feels upset, she has taken to reminding herself of every good thing that she has ever seen someone do. She ruefully acknowledges that this routine is a bit of a tedious game for her, but that "there are much worse games to play".
Katniss has long black hair, which she normally pulls back into a long braid, olive skin, and gray eyes[1]. After the fire in the 74th Hunger Games, after her time in the arena, her hair turned at least six inches short[9], it is an unknown if it was grown back - though most likely it was after her full body fix in the Capitol. She is small in stature and thin for her age as she was generally malnourished because of her district's poverty. She is thus one of the smallest tributes in her Games, but due to her outdoor life, she is strong for her size.[5] She is also known as "The Girl on Fire" during the Hunger Games; she earns this title from her fierce personality and the outfits created for her by her stylist, Cinna.[55] Katniss is not very image-conscious, to the dismay of Venia, one of her stylists[55][35][28]. In the first book, her hearing in her left ear is destroyed[13] because of the explosion caused in the arena[12], but it is fixed in the Capitol in the end, as are all of her other major and more minor injuries including the erasing of any scars from her years of hunting[20]. Before entering the arena the first time, Katniss had many minor scrapes and cuts, and her outward appearance was very much imperfect. However, after she won, they were repaired by the Capitol doctors, including replacing the hearing in her left ear[20]. Most notable about her appearance and demeanor, however, was the image she unconsciously projected, as noted by her co-tribute Peeta[5]. In Peeta's interview, he says that a lot of boys like Katniss when asked if he likes anyone at home[7][56].
Anita-- sounds like you are saying that people cannot come up with original ideas, so they rip off other authors, as the author of the hunger games has done. And no, telling a story in an " original" manner is not an excuse for plagiarism.
Getting back to the original issue, catching fire is the weakest of the trilogy because it is the middle film. The film does not really end, it just stops. Think Star Wars trilogy for another example of this problem
I loved Catching Fire. I read the book before I saw the movie, and thought it was really faithful. I also felt they better captured the brutality of the games in the 2nd movie.I'm going to have to disagree with you about Karate Kid II. Karate Kid I obviously was one of the best movies ever, so it would be hard to measure up. Karate Kid III was just awful. It made no sense. Karate Kid II however is a pretty solid movie, its better in every single way that Karate Kid III. It has a nice succinct plot - Daniel travels to Okinawa, meets a new villain, and must gain a much deeper understanding of his Karate to defeat Chosen. I really like the "B" story of Miyagi reconciling with Sato, and of course the love story between Daniel and the lovely girl he meets in Okinawa. Have you ever looked at one of those little drum toys the same way after seeing that movie? I know I haven't. So, I wouldn't describe KK2 as a nosedive - it was more of a slight decline, but KK3 was definitely a nosedive. The Karate Kid 2 nintendo game was actually pretty good.How about Back to the Future? I think most people don't like 2 - its very dark, and the plot is confusing, where as 3 is more of a traditional movie.Worst #2 of all time: Major League 2. A film like Catching Fire might look like it is using the language of revolution to forestall and co-opt that very thing, but the enthusiasm with which the younger set has embraced the series (books and films) gives me pause. There is hunger in their hearts for some kind of change. Or maybe a desire to quit the game entirely, to stop playing and leave the field, freedom and joy running hand in hand.
